243 Final Speech

今度、このスピーチやります。

月曜の朝8時～10時の間です。
日本時間では、月曜の夜11時～翌1時の間です。
いつだったか、同じような話をキャンプでしたなぁ。。
みんなの家は、「ハリー･ポッター」観ていいの？
メディア学部と、聖書と、水野晴郎と、淀川長治を足したら、こんな理論になるわけです。。
「どんな映画からでも学べることはある。」
ちなみに、友達の名前、イニシャルにしてあります。。
ブラッド・ピットとモーガン・フリーマン、トールキンはそのまま。

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas.
We are in the Final Week.
After that, we will have a Christmas break.
It’s going to be fun.

The last Christmas break, I went to W’s house and had a nice time with his family.
I have experienced an American Christmas.
Family gathered, spent some time, and celebrated Christmas.
That was a nice time.
I remembered Japanese New years.
In New years of Japan, the family gathers in one house and spends some time.
I think it is good to meet every family member once in a year.
Anyway, I have spent last Christmas break in W’s house and I have watched a lot of movies.
I love watching movies.
America is the biggest movie country in the world.
I am glad to come here.
Most people like watching movies.
So I can talk with my friends about movie a lot here.

What kind of movie do you like?
There are a lot of movies.
Action movies, Love stories, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Fantasy, etcetera.
I like Fantasy and Thriller movies.
I like The Lord of the Rings and I also like Harry Potter.
They are very famous fantasy movies.
I like Seven.
That is a thriller movie. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman star in that movie.
But that movie is a violent movie.
Some people are feeling bad when they see it.
And for Christians, it is not a good movie because that movie’s theme is the seven deadly sins.
Some people may say, “Don’t watch that movie.”
But I want to say, “You should watch it, if you don’t mind violent movie.”
Because, that movie shows how human’s justice is weak.
And I also want to say that there is no movie I must not watch.
But some movies I should avoid by myself.

How about The Lord of the Rings?
Is it a good movie for a Christian?
Many Christians will say that is a good movie, because the author J. R. R. Tolkien is a Christian.
And he wrote that book based upon the Bible like The Chronicles of Narnia.

How about Harry Potter?
Is it a good movie for a Christian?
I have heard someone say that it is not a good movie for a Christian, because in that movie, people use magic.
Yes, Harry Potter is a fantasy and story about a magician.
And the author is not a Christian.

Now, think about The Lord of the Rings, again.
That is also a fantasy, there are some magicians in that story and they use magic.
What’s the difference between Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings?
The bad thing for a Christian is using magic, but not a fantasy movie.

I have graduated a college in Japan.
I have a degree of bachelor of Media Science.
I have learned how to receive the message from every media source.
What is the media?
TV, newspaper, music, book, and movie are media that we can imagine easily.
In that college the teacher said “The media is every medium to send some message.”
Everything can be a media in this world.
For example, my mouth, my hands, and the air of this room are media, now.
When I move my hands you can see my hands.
When I speak something my mouth is moving.
The air of this room brings my voice to your ears and you can hear my voice.

There is a lot of media in this world and it always sends some message.
We should choose which message to pick up and to throw away.
And we should learn skill of how to use media.
If we underestimate the power of media, we will be in big trouble and have big misunderstandings.

What channel of television do you see, if you want to know news or true information of something unfamiliarity?
CNN? FNC? ABC?
I don’t know well about American news channels.
But I want to say that “Watch more than two channels, if you really want to get true information.”
Because every channel doesn’t have a little partial information.
If you watch two channels, you can compare the information.
Each news channel doesn’t always tell truth.
Each news channel doesn’t always tell false.
Sometimes you choose one channel’s information, in other times you choose another channel’s information.

If you want to use media wisely, you should choose which message you get.
In the college in Japan, because that college is not a Christian college, so the professor said “you have to consider what is good or bad by yourself.”
By the measure of my mind, I will choose which message I receive.
But for a Christian, we have a good measure, the Bible.
By the bible, we should choose which message we receive or not.
If we can do that, we can watch every kind of movie.
Every movie has a good message and a bad message.
We will receive a good message and throw away a bad message.

So, how about Harry Potter, again?
It is a good movie, it shows a good friendship.
But they use magic that is not good, so we don’t receive and don’t imitate that.

By the bible, we have to choose which message we will receive and throw away.
That is an important skill to live as Christians in the IT world.

Christmas Break is coming.
Some people will watch a lot of movies in their house.
